7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Web Developer
Hiring someone to build your website is an investment. Asking the right questions beforehand saves you time, money, and frustration later. Here’s what to ask any web developer – including us – before you agree to anything.
1. What’s included in your price?
Some developers charge for design only. Others include hosting, support, and future updates. Make sure you know exactly what you’re paying for before you start.
2. How long will it take?
A simple business website might take 2–4 weeks. A larger site with many pages or special features could take longer. Get a realistic timeline in writing.
3. What happens after the website is live?
Does your developer disappear forever? Or do they offer ongoing support, backups, and security updates? Websites need regular maintenance. Know what you’re getting.
4. Will my website work on phones?
Most people browse on their phones. Your website must look good and work properly on mobile devices. Ask to see examples of mobile-friendly sites they’ve built.
5. Who owns the website once it’s built?
You should own your domain, your content, and your website files. Make sure this is clear in your agreement before any work begins.
6. Can you show me examples of your work?
A good developer will have a portfolio of real websites they’ve built for real clients. Ask to see them. Better yet, ask to speak to a past client about their experience.
